Call for works to be carried out ahead of Christmas retail period

At the end of the calendar year, works on roads and footpaths are normally carried out in towns across the county.

This is due to the amount of time it takes to get the projects ready for work – tenders and contracts must be prepared before contractors are then appointed.

However, some public representatives feel that the work at the end of the year disrupts business coming up to Christmas.

Carrick on Suir Independent Councillor Kieran Bourke says the schedule needs to be improved so work is done before the busy retail period.
