Minister of State Sean Sherlock made the announcement at a major humanitarian pledging conference for Syria, which is taking place in Kuwait.
The conference aims to raise 7.7 billion euro to help nearly 18 million people in Syria and the region this year.

So far in 2015, Ireland has provided 3.3 million euro to the UN Refugee agency, UNICEF and the World Food Programme to ensure that their work can continue.
