The corner forward hasn't started a league game this season and wasn't in the match day 26 for Sunday’s defeat to Clare.
Tobin told the Limerick Leader newspaper the decision was not easy and was not one he wanted to make but he felt it was one he had to make for various reasons that have accumulated over time.
The Murroe-Boher forward added he hopes to play for Limerick again in the future.
