Tipp GAA official calls for overhaul of fixture programme

A prominent Tipperary GAA official is warning the club scene will 'die' if the lot of the ordinary player isn't improved.

Kilsheelan Kilcash Chairman David Power says a major overhaul of the fixture programme is required in order to prevent that happening.

The 33-year-old led Tipp to the All-Ireland minor football title in 2011 and stepped down as Wexford manager last month after two years in the job.

He believes serious attention must now be paid to the arrangements for non-intercounty players.

Meanwhile, a statement on behalf of Davy Fitzgerald is due to be issued this afternoon.

The five-year tenure of the Clare hurling manager appears to be at an end, following speculation he's lost the confidence of the players.

Fitzgerald held talks with Clare County Board representatives last night, but is currently holidaying in the United States.
