Tipp board backs revamped Senior Football Championship

Delegates at last night's monthly meeting voted 36 to 20 in favour of backing the changes put forward by GAA Director General Paraic Duffy.

The three-year trial – which includes an All-Ireland Quarter-Final Group Stage – will come into force from next year if it's approved at Congress this weekend.

Tipperary senior football manager Liam Kearns, all his players and the Tipperary Football Board have come out strongly against the suggested new format.

The latter's Chairman Joe Hannigan accepts the democratic decision of the County Board but is still firmly of the view that the Duffy proposals won't be good for football in the Premier.
