Semple Stadium out of Rugby World Cup bid

Semple Stadium will not be one of the stadiums used if Ireland wins the bid to host the 2023 World Cup

The Taoiseach has today officially launched the next stage of Ireland's bid.

The plan would utilise stadiums north and south of the border to host the competition, although Thurles is not included.

12 Stadia have been announced – Croke Park, the Aviva and the RDS arena are the Dublin venues while the Munster venues include Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Thomond Park and Fitzgerald stadium Killarney.

Nowlan Park in Kilkenny is also on the list along with Pearse Stadium Galway, Mc Hale Park Castlebar, Celtic park Derry, Kingspan Stadium Belfast and Casment park Belfast.

The government has agreed to foot the more than 100 million euro cost of hosting the World Cup.

Former Irish captain Brian O'Driscoll says it would be a huge boost for the country.
