Premier see off Cats to claim Liam MacCarthy

Michael Ryan's team put in a hugely impressive performance to beat title holders Kilkenny 2-29 to 2-20 in today's final at Croke Park.

Goals were always likely to be key to deciding the outcome of the match and Tipp got two of them – one a piece from John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer and John McGrath.

Their path to victory was also helped considerably by the scoring contribution of Seamus Callanan, who finished as the match's top scorer with 0-13.

For most of the game the Premier County were in the ascendancy and their prospects of a first All-Ireland title since 2010 were only seriously in peril when Richie Hogan goaled for the Cats.

However, Tipp responded well to the setback with a flurry of scores that took them to victory.
