McGrath calls for change to GAA schedule

One of Tipperary's most respected GAA analysts is calling for the national hurling and football leagues to begin in October.

Tom McGrath, who's a regular contributor to Tipp FM, believes playing a number of games in the competitions before Christmas would help to ensure that club players get a more regular diet of matches.

Under the current calendar year-based structure county football and hurling teams can be action from the end of January to mid-May.

Tom sees considerable merit in starting the national leagues in the autumn.
