Ireland draw opening WC qualifier

Ireland manager Martin O'Neill insists that his players should view last night's draw against Serbia as a point gained – instead of two points lost.

Daryl Murphy's 80th minute header helped Ireland to a two-all draw in Belgrade.

But the big question after the game was if O'Neill's side had shown enough ambition after Jeff Hendrick's early strike had given them the lead after just three minutes.

Afterwards, O'Neill preferred to look at the positives of the result instead of his side's performance.

Wales are the early leaders of Group D, with Gareth Bale's brace giving them a comfortable 4-0 win at home to Moldova.

While Austria survived a late Georgian revival to come away from Tblisi with a 2-1 win.
