Impressive result for Bennett in Tirreno Adriatico

Carrick on Suir's Sam Bennett survived a crash marred sprint on yesterdays second stage of Tirreno Adriatico to take his first World Tour podium.

The 24 year old Bora – Argon 18 rider came within millimetres of crashing in the bunch sprint at the end of the 153 kilometre stage but still managed to finish 3rd behind Belgian national champion Jens Debusschere of Lotto-Soudal and Peter Sagan of Tinkoff-Saxo.

The crash in the last 200 metres was caused by a mechanical problem with Mark Cavendish’s bike which brought down a number of riders at high speed.
