The Clonmel man was beaten in today's super-heavyweight final at a qualifying event in Azerbaijan.
He was beaten 29-28 by Guido Vianello of Italy.
Dean seemed to have the better of the first round but the judges sided with his opponent.
Vianello took the second and although the Tipp man won the third he couldn't get the knock-out he needed to win the bout.
Meanwhile, Michael O'Reilly from Portlaoise, who had already qualified, has won the middleweight title after getting a walkover in the final.
