Galway races begin this evening

The seven-day Galway summer festival begins this evening where the feature event is the 100-thousand Euro Connacht Hotel Handicap for amateur riders at twenty-to-eight.

Patrick Mullins, Ireland’s nine-time champion amateur, will be seeking a first success in this much-coveted amateur event as he partners recent Killarney winner Lagostovegas.

It’s one of three runners trained by his father Willie, who won the race as a rider on Pargan 32 years ago.

Racing gets underway at Ballybritt at twenty-past-five.
