Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher has been reflecting on his journey back from multiple long term injuries.

The three-time All-Ireland winner has suffered an ACL and Achilles injury in recent years but has battled back to full fitness.

‘Bonner’ scored a goal to help his native Lorrha earn back-to-back promotions winning last weekend’s premier intermediate hurling final replay against Thurles Sarsfields.

Speaking after the game, he says the hard work in rehab is for days like Saturday

“I’ve always asked questions of myself so when I did get a big injury you always have the doubts and stuff like that but I always have the belief in myself that I’ll get back to the best I can be.

“That’s what I’ve always done when I’ve had a serious injury and I’ve had a setback, I’ve always set a target to come back as good as I can be and thankfully that’s happened for both a cruciate and Achilles tendon.

“They’re not nice injuries but I’ve good friends around me and an awful lot of these club lads helped me out.

“It’s for days like this then that when you do get back on the field and you’re able to give it back to the club and give it back to the boys who’ve been working hard and that’s what it’s all about.”
