Fitzgerald likely to depart from Banner

Confirmation of Davy Fitzgerald's departure as Clare hurling manager is likely within the next 48 hours.

The County Board last night held talks with Fitzgerald, following widespread reports that he was about to end his five-year term in charge.

The 2013 All Ireland-winning manager is currently holidaying in the US, but is expected to make an announcement on his future in the coming days.

According to reports, the senior players held a meeting earlier this week where they agreed that it was time for a change of management.

Peter O'Connell of the Clare Champion newspaper, says that decision by the players has left Fitzgerald with no choice but to step down.
