Clonmel Commercials coach highlights changes in football defenders physique

One of Tipperary's top football coaches says there's been a marked change in the physical make-up of inter-county defenders.

Clonmel Commercials boss Charlie McGeever believes those charged with keeping the opposing forwards at bay are smaller than they used to be.

The Donegal native thinks the altered nature of Gaelic football in recent year has led to 'mobility' being the most desired quality for players that line up in the full and half-back lines.

He says there was cast-iron proof of the trend at last year's premier awards ceremony.
