City back to within three points

Fernando scored the opener after just 8mins, Yaya Toure followed up with a penalty and then David Villa hit the mark to reduce Chelsea's advantage at the top.  

Southampton bagged back-to-back wins by beating Cyrstal Palace 3-1 at Loftus Road.

With Shane Long left on the bench it was his replacement Saido Mane who hit the opener before Bertrand and Alderweireld sealed the points. Scott Dann pulled one back for Palace. 

Southampton had comprehensively beaten Everton last time out and Roberto Martinez' side were on the wrong end again today – losing out 1-0 at home to Stoke. Bojan Krkic with the only goal before half time. 

Harry Kane scored inside the first minute at the King Power Stadium as Tottenham took an early lead at the bottom team Leicester. Leonard Ulloa levelled it just after the break but Cristian Eriksen had the final say as Spurs won 2-1. 

Sunderland let slip an early lead as Hull won 3-1 at the Stadium of Light.

Adam Johnson with the Sunderland goal inside the first minute but Gaston Ramirez, James Chester and Nico Krancjar struck to seal the win for Hull. 

Swansea beat Aston Villa 1-0 at the Liberty – Gylfi Sugurdsson with the only goal. 

Raheem Sterling found the only goal of the day at Turf Moor as Liverpool lead Burnley 1-0. 

Man United got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win at home to Newcastle. 

Wayne Rooney with two and Robin van Persie with the third. 

Papiss Cissé with the consolation from the penalty spot for Newcastle with 3mins to go. 

Chelsea breezed past their London rivals West Ham 2-nil in the early game to open up a six point lead at the top of the table, at least temporarily.

John Terry and Diego Costa scored either side of half-time.
