Cabinet agrees public inquiry into whistleblower smear campaign

Ministers signed off on the idea after it was discussed between Enda Kenny and Micheál Martin earlier today.

However there's no agreement on the terms of reference for the inquiry, which will only be drafted after talks with opposition parties.

Meanwhile there's no agreement yet on when a motion of no confidence in the Dail will be debated – with no agenda agreed for this week.

The Dáil's business committee is to meet again at 4pm to discuss a weekly timetable.
