This data which is contained in the National Housing Construction Index is collected by consultancy firm Link2Plans from real time planning and project information in every local authority including Tipperary County Council.

It reveals that, year on year, project commencements – or the number of new builds now underway is up 84 percent

This is well above the national average of 66 percent for the first six months of the year.

The number of planning applications actually lodged with the Local Authority are way up too -16 percent when compared to the same period in 2013.

However it must be noted that the increase was driven by a major spurt in the first three months of the year – while the latter three up to the end of July has seen a rapid decline.
