Sharapova admits drug test fail

The five-time Grand Slam winner has revealed that she he failed a test for a substance known as “Meldonium” at this year's Australian Open.

The 28-year-old says that she had first been prescribed the drug for health reasons in 2006 – but she accepts responsibility for not realising that the substance was added to the WADA banned list at the start of this year…

The former tennis world number one says it's because a rule change at the start of January banned a substance she's been taking in medicine since 2006.

Sharapova says she's not been informed about any punishment – and hopes she'll be able to play again.

The Russian has won five grand slam titles – including Wimbledon 12 years ago.
