Seven Tipp players make All-Star hurling team

Cathal Barrett, James Barry, Ronan Maher, Padraig Maher, Patrick 'Bonner' Maher, Seamus Callanan and John McGrath were honoured for their performances during a year in which the Premier County were crowned Munster and All-Ireland champions.

The remainder of the selection – which was chosen by a panel of GAA experts and revealed at a ceremony in Dublin last night – features 4 players from Kilkenny and two each from Waterford and Galway.

There was dissapointment for the Tipp men up for individual awards.

Waterford's Austin Gleeson beat Seamus Callanan and Padraic Maher to the Hurler of the Year prize.

The Mount Sion player also won the young player accolade, for which Ronan Maher was one of the nominees.

Football's Young Player of the Year was deemed to be Diarmuid O'Connor of Mayo –  Josh Keane and Jimmy Feehan made the shortlist of three.
