Open Championship underway

The 2016 Open Championship begins this morning at Royal Troon.

Local star Colin Montgomerie had the honour of striking the opening tee-shot this morning after qualifying for this year's tournament.

There's a strong Irish challenge this week, with Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Shane Lowry all being spoken of as potential contenders.

Former winner Darren Clarke was the first of Irish players to tee-off his morning at 7:41am while two-time winner Padraig Harrington will started his challenge just before 8.30am, with Paul Dunne teeing-off shortly after that.

McDowell will be among the afternoon starters today, while Lowry and McIlroy will both tee-off after 9 o'clock this morning.
