Gary O'Donovan – who won silver with his brother Paul in the men's lightweight double sculls – carried the flag for Ireland in the closing ceremony at the Maracana stadium last night.

Before that, Paul Pollack finished 32nd in the men's marathon.

The Co Down man, who made up about 60 places over the last 15km, crossed the line in 2:16:24.

Kevin Seaward was the next Irishman home in 64th position with a time of 2:20:06.

Mick Clohisey finished 103rd in 2:26:34.
