Carrick United celebrates 50th anniversary

One of the most successful sporting clubs in Tipperary is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a gala function tonight.

Carrick Utd FC was founded in 1968 and over the intervening years have won three Munster Junior Cups, a Munster Senior Cup and a FAI Junior Cup along with numerous league titles.

The function will also honour the 10 year anniversary of the FAI Junior Cup winning team with a presentation to the 2008 team.

Speaking to the Extra Time Junior Football Podcast, current club chairman P.J. Torpey reflected on the past 50 years of football in the town and how Carrick needed to capitalise on the talent available.

The full interviews will be on next week’s Junior Football podcast.
