Chelsea Go Top After Day Of Drama

Chelsea beat Newcastle 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, thanks to an Eden Hazard hat-trick.

That result saw Jose Mourinho's team move ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal, who both dropped points today.

City were held to a 0-0 draw away to Norwich City at Carrow Road.

But the big shock of the day came at Anfield, where Arsenal were thrashed 5-1 by Liverpool earlier in the day's opening game.

The home side scored FOUR times in an unbelievable opening 20 minutes, with Martin Skrtel on the mark twice and Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge also netting.

Sterling scored again in the second half, while Mikel Arteta got one back for Arsenal from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere in today's 3pm games, Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic scored to give Hull City a 2-nil win against 10 man Sunderland at the Stadium of Light- Wes Brown was sent off for the home side after 4 minutes.

Two deadline day signings helped Crystal Palace to a 3-1 win at home to West Brom.

Tom Ince and Joe Ledley were on the mark there, with Marouane Chamakh also scoring.

Bifouma scored for West Brom.

Southampton and Stoke City drew 2-2 at St. Mary's- Rickie Lambert and Steven Davis were on the mark for Southampton, while Peter Odemwingie and Peter Crouch notched for Stoke.

And Kevin Nolan scored twice for West Ham in the second half to give them a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
