Contrasting rules will govern opening Tipp Championship games

The implementation of the one-on-one penalties and an advantage law was pushed back to April 11th after GAA chiefs decided to give players and referees a chance to familiarise themselves with the changes.

The club senior hurling championship in Tipp sees matches get underway this weekend prior to the new rules being introduced.

Speaking to Tipp Fm at the County Board's monthly meeting last night, County Secretary Tim Floyd said efforts were made to allow the Premier County to bring them in a week earlier.

Meanwhile the Appeals Committee at GAA HQ will tonight hear appeals put forward by the county board over the red cards issued to hurlers Seamus Callanan and Cathal Barrett.

Holycross native Barrett received two yellow cards and signed an application for a hearing in the hope of getting his first yellow card rescinded- claiming it wasn't warranted.

Meanwhile Callanan was sent off just two minutes into the second half when he received a straight red card after he was reported to have struck Offaly full back Dermot Shortt.

If his appeal is successful the Drum & Inch man will be able to line out in the upcoming league semi final against Waterford.
