Dark evenings mean a greater threat of break-ins particularly in rural parts of Tipperary.
Local Gardaí are once again reminding people to be security conscious and make life as difficult as possible for burglars.
Sgt Carol O’Leary from Cahir Garda Station told Tipp Today earlier that their Winter Safety Campaign is up and running in a bid to in a bid to get householders to ensure they take basic security precautions.
“We would encourage you now to go outside, go into the garden and clear up all the loose tools that you’ve been working with over the summer. Put them away – take them away from temptation.
“Start looking at if you’re going away for a night or if you’re going out for the evening leave a light on, lock it up, close the curtains.”
Sgt O’Leary is also urging businesses and farmers in Tipperary to take the advice of Tipperary’s Crime Prevention Officer.
“If you love it light it up and lock it up, that’s the simplest ones.
“We have a fantastic Crime Prevention Officer Sgt John McCormack in Thurles – contact him. He will come down and offer advice – particularly for businesses, rural areas, rural farm scenarios. He’ll give you advice on where to put your lights for maximum impact. They’re a massive deterrent.”
