The Government is under fire for entering into an agreement to use Dundrum House for International Protection Applicants.
A multi-million Euro 20 year contract has been signed with Spanish registered company Utmasta to house 277 asylum seekers.
The property had been home to families fleeing the war in Ukraine since 2022.
Deputy Mattie McGrath told Tipp Today earlier that the Government is going against their own guidelines by signing this contract.
“It stinks from High Heaven that a contract would be signed here. I’ll just pick out one guideline that they have in relation to IPAS centres and that is that they can’t change demographics of a community or an area by more than 5%. This is being changed – 277 people I think the contract is for here in this small village of 220 people. That’s over 120% and if that’s not flying in the face of the guidelines that they have.”
