Tourism Ireland is welcoming the latest CSO figures which show
there was an eight per cent increase in the number of visitors
holidaying in Ireland last year.

6.6 million tourists came here in 2011 – that's half a million more
then in 2010.

And it seems Irish people are preferring to holiday in Ireland too –
with the number of overseas trips made by Irish residents last year
falling by over 4 per cent.

Niall Gibbons of Tourism Ireland says the reduction in VAT to 9 per
cent has had a positive impact on the number of people holidaying here.
