Tipperary Priest says Pope’s funeral a reminder of his initial election

The Vatican says it estimates a quarter of a million people have been attending today’s funeral.

That includes those crammed into St Peter’s Square as well as mourners listening from neighbouring side streets.

The Pope’s now making his final Popemobile journey – from the Vatican through the streets of Rome – to the church where’s he’s been asked to be buried in a simple tomb, inscribed with only his name.

Tipperary Priest Fr Michael Toomey from the Ardfinnan and Newcastle Parish is in Rome said the service had similairites to his election as pope

 

“it was a reminder of the night he was elected as pope, when he bowed his head and asked for people to pay for him, now they will pray for him one final time”
