A Tipperary MEP is calling for the resignation of the Economic
and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn.
Labour's Phil Prendergast says that Ollie Rehn's model for
economic stability is too conservative to work.
The Clonmel based MEP says that President Barroso should dismiss his
Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Ollie Rehn.
Phil Prendergast says that Mr. Rehn has developed a remarkable track
record of optimistic economic predictions that he is systematically forced
to revise downwards.
She says that in theory, Mr. Rehn's austerity recipes should somehow
unlock growth while doing limited harm to the economy in the short run,
for the sake of future prosperity but in reality, his recipe turns out to have
been causing far more severe damage to the economy, both in the
short and the long term.
When forced to revise his figures, Mr. Rehn insists that we haven't cut enough.
She also criticised him for failing to meet with her on the issue, citing
a heavy work load for his inability to meet.
