Motion for Garda station remaining open is defeated.

A last-ditch  motion to avoid the closure of 5 Tipp Garda stations, was defeated in the

Dail last night.

Doors will close at 95 Garda stations around the country today,

It comes just a day after the funeral of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe
heard a call from celebrant Father Michael Cusack to reflect on the
need for more policing in Ireland.

Former Governor of Mountjoy Jail in Dublin, Tipp native John Lonergan has also
expressed concerns about the impact of the closures – particularly on rural areas:
