Local political reaction to the Budget has been mixed.
Independent T.D. Michael Lowry said it's crammed with
broken promises.
While the line was held on not reducing social welfare payments and not increasing income tax,
he claims money is being hoovered up by other new stealth taxes.
Child benefits cuts, a 3-month cut in jobseeker's benefit eligibility and an extra €250
student registration fee this year are some of the measures highlighted by the North Tipp Deputy.
Meanwhile,South Tipperary Independent TD Mattie McGrath said low and middle income families
are once again the big losers in the budget.
The reaction was more positive from FG Deputy Tom Hayes who welcomed the announcement
by Minister Michael of a diesel rebate for road hauliers from next July.
However, Independent T.D. Seamus Healy estimates that a typical low-income family
with two children will be 22 euro a week poorer after the budget.
