A last minute attempt to stop tonights vote on abortion legislation
is expected to come before the High Court.
The challenge is being headed up by Independent TD Mattie McGrath,
former MEP Kathy Sinnott and campaigner Mark McCrystal.
TD Mattie McGrath has scheduled a press conference for 3.45pm just before the Dail
resumes the debate on abortion following today s dawn finish.
Over 100 amendments to the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill have yet to be thrashed
out before there is a vote on the legislation.
But that may not happen if a group including the Independent deputy succeed in securing a
High Court injunction to prevent the vote
They say the Oireachtas can t vote on the legislation because it contains provisions
that have already been rejected by the Irish people in referenda.
The group includes MEP Kathy Sinnott and Mark McCrystal who last year won a court case
that the Government used public money to provide one-sided information on the Children s Referendum.
