Mary McAleese is receiving the Tipperary Peace Award today

Former Irish President Mary McAleese and her husband,
Senator Martin McAleese are being presented with the prestigious
Tipperary International Peace Award this afternoon..

It's in recognition for their work on the Northern Ireland peace process.

It will be the first official public engagement that former
President McAleese is attending since leaving office last year.

Others who have recieved this prestigious award in the past include
former South African President Nelson Mandela and
US Senator Ted Kennedy.
