Criticism of Senior funding cuts…

Funding for the Seniors Alert Scheme which provides panic alarms for
elderly people's homes has been more than halved to just over €1 million.

The scheme is administered on the ground by voluntary Community Alert Groups.

Funding will now only be provided to qualified persons over 65 who are living alone.

Martin Langton of Nenagh said today that this cutback could have serious consequences
for many local people.
