Proposals to get local businesses to sponsor roundabouts across
South Tipperary are to be examined in more detail.

Fine Gael Councillors Michael Murphy and Tom Acheson tabled
the motion at this weeks meeting of the County Council.

A similar scheme operates in a number of other local authority areas.

They say there are 42 roundabouts in South Tipperary, 13 of which
are in Clonmel.

Should the scheme go ahead it would see signs erected on
roundabouts bearing the name of the sponsoring business.

Councillors Murphy and Acheson are also suggesting that the
maintenance of the roundabouts would be sub-contracted out,
freeing up Council staff for other duties.
