Tipperary sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley has helped two Irish relay teams qualify for the World Championships.
The Newport AC runner was part of the women’s 4×400 metre team that won their second heat today at the World Relay Championships in China.
The result secures automatic qualification for Tokyo later this year.
Yesterday she ran in the mixed team that qualified by finishing second in their heat but today she switched along with Rhasidat Adeleke to add a bit of power to make sure the women’s team qualified.
Mawdsley clocking 50.01 seconds today which was faster than Adeleke’s time.
The Tipp woman gave credit to her teammates:
“The girls put me in a great position and I love to chase so yeah it was a smart run.
“And I think I’m really happy to be getting that experience in so early in the season because y’know what happened in Paris I don’t want that to happen again so it’s all about learning and I’m looking forward to the rest of the summer.”
