The Premier County beat Cork 2-27 to 2-15 in Division 1A to secure a last eight tie with Clare on April 3rd.
Michael Ryan's side needed to get the better than Galway managed away to Waterford to advance – the Tribesmen drew at Walsh Park and will now face the Rebels in a relegation play-off.
Although the match never really got going there were a number of positives for Tipp.
Seamus Callanan, who came on as a second-half substitute in his customary full-forward berth, threatened the goal on three occasions and eventually got 0-2, much to the delight of the crowd.
Michael Breen was arguably the home side's top preformer in the first period, after which Tipp led 0-13 to 0-10.
He scored his team's second goal and also contributed 0-4, all from play.
Tipp's first goal came from Niall O'Meara (who also got a point) and arguably ended any resistance that Cork were putting up.
The Premier County's top scorer was John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer 0-10 (0-9f).
John McGrath (0-5), Noel McGrath (0-2), Dan McCormack (0-2) and Brendan Maher (0-1) also registered for Michael Ryan's side.
There'll be a toss of a coin to determine where the Tipp-Clare quarter-final will be played.
The GAA's CCCC will confirm all the details relating to the fixture on Monday afternoon.
