Tipp boxer to represent Ireland at World Championships

Tipperary boxer Dean Gardiner has announced that he’ll fight in the World Championships in seven weeks time.

The super-heavyweight finished ninth in the European Championships, by way of defeat to the eventual winner, Viktor Vykhryst who prevented him from qualifying for Hamburg.

However, the Clonmel man’s set to head to Germany in place of Britain’s Fraser Clarke who’s been forced to pull out of the competition due to injury.

His inclusion at the tournament brings to five the number of Irish boxers heading to the championships in August.

Kurt Walker, Brendan Irvine, Seán McComb and Joe Ward have also qualified.
