The FAI has publicly backed Chief Executive John Delaney.

President Tony Fitzgerald says the board are more than happy with the way the Tipp Town man is running the association.

John Delaney apologised this week for any offence caused by his singing of a Republican ballad in a pub following last week's win over the U-S-A.

A statement, posted on the FAI website, said John Delaney has done an enormous amount for Irish football.

It refers in particular to the winning of the Euro 2020 bid for Dublin.

Tony Fitzgerald said John Delaney is fully deserving of his contract extenstion to 2020.
