There was a Tipperary connection to last weekend’s Women’s Champions League final victory.
Arsenal beat Barcelona 1-0 in Lisbon on Saturday, with Irish captain Katie McCabe lining out at left back for the Gunners.
Cahir native Paudie Roche is the lead strength and conditioning coach with the Arsenal squad.
Speaking on Extra-Time, local soccer analyst Barry Ryan says it’s a great connection for Cahir Park AFC:
“Paudie would’ve been one of Cahir’s best underage players in the mid-to-late 1990s, he was a brilliant midfielder and could strike the ball anywhere from 25-30 yards out and he’s a powerhouse which probably leads to no surprise why he went on to work in S&C.
“He graduated all the way to lead S&C with Arsenal’s women’s team and they’ve won the first Champions League for Arsenal in 18 years.
“What a connection for Cahir Park AFC, to have the lead strength and conditioning coach Paudie Roche from Cahir, in a Champions League win.”
