The Republic of Ireland’s task of qualifying for the World Cup has got tougher.

FIFA have confirmed the seedings for the play offs will be based on World Rankings.

It means Martin O’Neil’s men are set to be un-seeded if their win their final two Group D games and finish as one of the eight best runners-up.

They will have to play the likes of Portugal, Italy, Sweden or Iceland.
