Peake Villa caused somewhat of an upset last evening in Cashel when they claimed the Tipperary Cup over treble chasing Clonmel Celtic.
Villa took the lead on 50 minutes after Garry Hynes got on the end of a cross to head past Ritchie Ryan.
In truth Celtic should have been ahead at that stage after Seanie O’Hara and Johnny Cagney has gone close for the league champions.
That goal forced Celtic forward and they positively laid siege to the Peake Villa goal for the remainder of the game before Seanie O’Hara eventually got on the end of a through ball to force the ball home.
With the game in extra time , it looked as though Celtic were the fitter side but again Peake defied the odds and scored what proved the winner on 98 minutes through Joseph Mahoney.
As Celtic piled forward once more, this young Villa side held firm and won a famous cup victory against one of the finest sides in Munster.
The final score Peake Villa 2, Clonmel Celtic 1 after extra time
