Michael Hutchinson averaged over 30 miles per hour to clinch the Irish National Time Trial Championships in Cahir last evening.

Setting off from the race headquarters at Morrison's BMW on the Cork road the riders faced into a strong headwind on the outward leg on the old N8 but made the most of the tailwind on the return journey of the 35.5 kilometre course.

UK based Time Trial specialist Hutchinson clocked a time of 43 minutes 49 seconds to finish 35 seconds clear of his nearest challenger Martyn Irvine with AG2R professional Nicolas Roche taking bronze, a further 14 seconds down.

Roche will be among the favourites for Sundays Elite Mens road race.

The Veterans Road Race starts at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning in Clonmel with the Ladies Road Race at 2pm.

We'll have live updates here on Tipp FM from these and the Elite Mens Race on Sunday.
