Mawdsley resigned to 400 metre repechage after being pipped at the finish line

Sharlene Mawdsley was back in action at the Olympic Games this afternoon.

The Newport AC woman ran aggressively from the start of her 400 metre women’s heat, finishing in fourth place, only four one-hundredths of a second behind Austria’s Gogl-Walli.

A new personal best of 50.71 seconds was just short of automatic qualification to the semi-finals and she will run in tomorrow afternoon’s repechage.

Meanwhile, her relay teammates Rhasidat Adeleke and Sophie Becker were also in action.

Adeleke topped her heat with a time of 50.07 seconds, qualifying comfortably for the semis while Becker joins Mawdsley in tomorrow’s repechage.
