It’s horse racing versus hurling in today’s match-up for Tipperary’s Greatest Sporting Moment

Today’s battle to make the quarter finals for Tipperary’s greatest sporting moment sees two key personalities in the competition go head-to-head.

Rachel Blackmore has become a trailblazer for horse racing, not just here in Tipperary but worldwide as she goes from win to win. A role model for young people, the Killenaule native rode her first Cheltenham and grade 1 winner back in 2019 finishing that season with 90 winners.

By 2021 the superstar of racing became the first female jockey to partner a winner of the Champion Hurdle and also became the first female winner of the Ruby Walsh trophy for the leading jockey after riding 6 winners in 4 days at Cheltenham.

Rachel is up against Lar Corbett in this part of the competition. The hat trick against the Cats in the 2010 final means the superstar hurler will be remembered for all time. The catch and turn for the first goal in that final left hurling followers on the edge of their seats. Noel Hickey fell as Lar Corbett stitched the net and the rest is history.

After over 20 years lining out for Thurles Sarsfield’s senior side, Lar is a name in hurling known to all.
