There was a disappointing start to the Munster championship for the Tipperary U20 hurlers last night.
Brendan Cummins side were beaten by Limerick in FBD Semple Stadium on a final score line of 2-13 to 0-17.
Second half goals for Limerick’s Matthew Fitzgerald and substitute Mark O’Brien saw the visitors to victory.
The Premier were reduced to 14-men in additional time when captain Sam O’Farrell received a second yellow card.
Speaking after the game, Tipp manager Brendan Cummins said Limerick hit the ground running while his side were slow to get into the game.
“Look we just didn’t get out of the blocks I suppose is the bottom line.
“Limerick got onto more of the breaks, they were able to get the better ball into their full forward line and that put us under pressure. I thought in the first half Halla and Podge and Jack Quinlan did really well. I tried to put more cover in there for them in the second half and tried to play a little bit deeper with our half forward line and it got us back into the game to a certain extent but in reality Limerick were that little bit better tonight.”
Tipp will look to bounce back in Round 2 away to Cork next Wednesday.
