All eyes on Semple for County Finals

All eyes are on Semple Stadium this afternoon, which plays host to two County Senior Hurling Finals.

First up at 1.15pm is the meeting of Roscrea and Toomevara in the Seamus O Riain final.

Both teams have secured Roinn 1 status for next year – where they’ll compete for the Dan Breen Cup.

Toomevara’s Denis Kelly says they’ve rebuilt their teams from the ground up this year.

He’s hoping they can top off a good year with some silverware…

Meanwhile, Roscrea know Toomevara will be favourites heading into the tie.

Toom defeated Roscrea earlier in the championship and Roscrea’s Mark McLoughlin says they’re under no illusion as to how tough the game will be…

All attention turns to Roinn 1 at 3.30, which pits hurling heavyweights Thurles Sarsfields against Borrisoleigh.

If Thurles Sarsfields are first to every ball, Birris-Ileigh will have no chance – according to Borris captain Paddy Stapleton, who’s hoping they’ve done enough to be crowned county senior hurling champions for the first time in more than 30 years.

Stapleton says it’s their job to try and shut down the Sarsfields attack…

Sars, meanwhile, are aiming for four-in-a-row this year.

Their captain Padraic Maher says following some of their earlier games, they need to put on a consistent performance…
