Cork shock Tipp in Semple Championship opener

Defending All Ireland champions Tipperary have been beaten in the opening game of the Munster Hurling championship.

A young cork side shocking the All Ireland champions with a 2-27 to 1-26 victory in their quater-final clash at Semple Stadium.

The first half ended 0-15 points apiece after and end-to-end nip-tuck free-scoring contest.

But the game opened up early soon after the restart when Cork got the opening goal after 42 minutes.

Shane Kingston’s first effort was hooked but he got another touch on it – enough to see it past Darren Gleeson and put the rebels four ahead fo the first time at 1-17 to 0-16.

The premier had to work hard to claw back the lead but went back in front with a green flag in the 56th minute

Seamus callanan had just cut the gap with a free when he fired in a lovely diagonal ball to John McGrath who fired home to claim a 1-22 to 1-21 advantage.

Michael Cahalane with seccond cork goal basically deciding the match two minutes from full time and Tipp found no way back even with 4 minutes of injury time.
