Patrick “Bonner” Maher says he had his mind made up at the start of 2024 that this would be his last year with the Tipp senior hurlers.

The three time All Ireland winner officially announced his retirement from the inter-county scene yesterday just days before his 35th birthday.

The Lorrha native outlined his reasons for calling it a day on Tipp FM’s Extra Time last evening.

“I kind of had my mind made up at the beginning of the year when I went back to Tipperary anyway for 2024. But you know the competitor in you is always thinking maybe one more year, one more year. I kind of had the choice of going back and give it everything and see where the pieces would fall.

“Just after finishing up with the club there last week and staying up in Senior I kind of decided I feel it’s the right time to step away and go pursue other things.”
